Terry Cook, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and Chair of the COAA Core Curriculum Task Force, asked me to spread the word about a new Owner Training initiative for owners’ project managers. Over the last year, COAA has been developing courses that are geared to the owner’s project manager. Each course will be led by a 3-person team of instructors, which includes an owner, designer/engineer and contractor. Two courses will be offered immediately preceding the COAA Fall Owners Leadership Conference in Orlando. (Construction Management at Risk and Design-Bid-Build: How to Make it Work Well)
Seven (7) more courses will be offered next year. By 2014, we will have a full suite of 14 training courses developed For Owners, By Owners. Better- trained owners can improve the overall building process, which can also benefit contractors, architects and others involved in the project.
